Implementing SuDS (Sustainable Drainage Systems)
The Governments definition of SuDS is now included in the NPPF ~ National Planning Policy Framework, for guidance on how developments are assessed and implemented, it says
‘Sustainable drainage systems are designed to control surface water run-off to…
*reduce the causes and impacts of flooding
*combine water management with green space with benefits for amenity recreation and wildlife’
Water run-off , once suitably incorporated in SuDS /Rainwater harvesting using underground storage tanks , Foul water back up protection, and even irrigation can be included in an holistic approach rather than a panic defence.
For too long we have been designing water away from properties when really we should have been designing it in.
